چکیده
Preparation of TiO2 NPs. Colloidal solutions containing nanoparticulate TiO2 are prepared through hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide by following published procedures. For a 500 mg/L solution, 500 mg of Ti(OCH-(CH3)2)4 was dissolved in 20 mL of 2-propanol. A 2 mL aliquot of this solution was slowly injected (microsyringe) into 20 mL of water at pH = 1.5 (adjusted with HCl). The solution was clear since TiO2 does not absorb in the visible spectrum; UV/Vis measurements presented in the Communication show a sharp absorption band beginning at 380 nm, corresponding to a band gap of approximately 3.2 eV.

A novel class of derivatized hydroxamic acid linkages for robust sensitization of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) under various aqueous conditions is described. The stability of linkages bound to metal oxides under various conditions is important in developing photocatalytic cells which incorporate transition metal complexes for solar energy conversion. In order to compare the standard carboxylate anc...
متن کاملInterfacial Electron Injection Probed by a Substrate-Specific Excitonic Signature.
Ultrafast interfacial electron transfer in sensitized solar cells has mostly been probed by visible-to-terahertz radiation, which is sensitive to the free carriers in the conduction band of the semiconductor substrate. Here, we demonstrate the use of deep-ultraviolet continuum pulses to probe the interfacial electron transfer, by detecting a specific excitonic transition in both N719-sensitized...
متن کاملDynamics of Interfacial Charge Transfer States and Carriers Separation in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells: A Time-Resolved Terahertz Spectroscopy Study
Electron injection from a photoexcited molecular sensitizer into a wide-bandgap semiconductor is the primary step toward charge separation in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). According to the current understanding of DSSCs functioning mechanism, charges are separated directly during this primary electron transfer process, yielding hot conduction band electrons in the semiconductor and positi...
متن کاملReversible visible-light photooxidation of an oxomanganese water-oxidation catalyst covalently anchored to TiO2 nanoparticles.
Several polynuclear transition-metal complexes, including our own dinuclear di-μ-oxo manganese compound [H(2)O(terpy)Mn(III)(μ-O)(2)Mn(IV)(terpy)H(2)O](NO(3))(3) (1, terpy = 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine), have been reported to be homogeneous catalysts for water oxidation. This paper reports the covalent attachment of 1 onto nanoparticulate TiO(2) surfaces using a robust chromophoric linker L. L, a p...
